New Year's - Collegiates & Z-hills |

Happy New Year VA Tech Skydivers! Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind? Should auld acquantance be forgot, and days
of auld lang syne? I trust all of you had a great time humming along
with that historic new year's tune since, even if you knew the words
before now, you were probably physically incapable of saying them! For
the record (and any future Jeopardy participants out there), the translation
is actually pretty bitter-sweet: "Should old acquaintances be forgot
and never brought to mind? Should old acquantances be forgot and days
that have passed by?" Well, that's one for the ages...most of the
skydiving club wont have any problem forgetting days gone by...matter
of fact, many struggle to remember some of the great rip-roarin' partays
down in the sunshine state, huungooowaaa! Some of this past week's happenings
are, of course, unforgettable...
First off, congratulations are in
order to all of the members who competed in this year's Collegiate
Nationals! In particular, Doug "Donkey" Extreme, Freshman,
Jamie, and Groundhog of team "Mad at Gravity" placed
2nd place of the unfunded teams! Also hoooray for Jamie for WINNING
the sport accuracy competition in the masters division and bringing
a gold medal back to blacksburg! (beer!) This marks the first
time in a very long time that a VT club member has brought back
a medal! Congrats!
Also, congrats to Belligijen for finishing AFF (beer!) and starting
the coaching program and congrats to Donkey Extreme for breaking
the milestone 100 jump mark in competition (cue the theme to jaws....get
ready for some pie'in!). Congrats to Gaddy to proving himself
"worthy" of the hypothetical "Freshmen F***ed Up
Off" competition and becoming the first VT club member to
ever officially barf in the packing tent at z-hills. (he was challenging
the claim that only Freshman, Belligijen, and And Then There's
Ben were worthy of the competition). |

Indeed, great times were had by all
as we traveled from Lake Wales to Zephryhills to partay and yes,
believe it or not, skydive. Sweetpea made his first 9-way (beer!),
and the VT men showed Zhills a thing or two about how we do things
at ASS via an all-male thong-way. yikes! yup, 9-nearly naked men
falling through the air....urghhh, i just threw up a little bit
in my mouth.
And for those who didn't go, the weather was awwwwesome...and
comfortable 75+ degrees everyday, and even the nights weren't
too bad. We had a little wind on a day or two (ask Dumper about
that), and on Hangover Day / New Year's day, some clouds rolled
in, but we were still able to jump all day...most of us. For some
reason Freshman and Ryan Turner had a hard time getting going...
Thanks to everyone who helped organize this year's trip, Christie
and Prickels in particular (and while we're recognizing people's
work, don't forget Justin who is always shooting video of everyone
else's skydives.). They certainly are deserving of a mixed adult
beverage or 12 if you ever see either of them downtown! Each member
was given $450 to skydive! Just for being part of the club! So
if you want to kill the winter doldrums and break free of your
monotany, what better time than the new year?! Meetings will not
begin again until the semester starts back up, but that's no reason
to avoid us! Contact Christie at skydive@vt.edu if you're interested
in learning how to skydive, need to learn how to pack a parachute,
or just want to come out and experience the best thrill of the
new year (that's skydiving, you perverts!)
